Bill's writing life began in New Orleans with his decision to write a novella while pursuing his MA in Literature. He later adapted that manuscript into the feature screenplay, REDMOND, which went on to win the award for BEST SCREENPLAY at the IFP Market in New York City. His next original screenplay, THE LONG BLUE YONDER, was a semi-finalist for the Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting and was selected for Hollywood's BLACK LIST.

His debut as a writer/director came with the short film, ONE YEAR DOWN, which premiered the same year as his stage musical, YOU AGAIN (a Musical about Cloning), which he wrote, produced, and directed at the The New York International Fringe Festival. His collaboration with director John Hyams  (Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning) resulted in THE IGNORANT BLISS OF SUN AND MOON, a short film adapted from one of Bill's short stories by the same name. That film went on to play at the Palm Springs and Tribeca Film Festivals.

His first produced feature film, +1 (aka PLUS ONE) directed by Dennis Iliadis (The Last House on the Left) was selected as a NY Times Critic's Pick and he wrote the screenplay for THE QUITTER, which  the NY Times described as “a textured, heartfelt drama.” He also wrote, directed and produced the web series COUPLES.

His original dramatic thriller, BASTARD, attracted Martin Scorsese to executive produce in 2018 with Oscar nominated cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto directing. In 2023 the project changed hands and titles. Now called FLOODPLAIN, the script attracted Ben Foster, Katherine Waterston and Justice Smith to star with Jordan Horowitz (La La Land) producing and Topic financing. His science fiction love story, NECTAR, written for Brazilian director Caito Ortiz is currently casting, and his darkly comic thriller TOXIC has acclaimed director Emily Atef attached to direct and is also at the casting stage. He is currently shopping an unscripted series with filmmaker Shaka King (Judas and the Black Messiah).

He teaches screenwriting at NYU and is the Associate Director of Almanack Screenwriters where he helps provide a platform to find and support diverse storytellers for the screen with strong voices and unique stories. He also works as a freelance writing consultant, helping writers, produces, and directors conceptualize, develop, and execute their ideas.

In addition to his writing life, he has worked extensively in the education field as a teacher and nonprofit leader. He has also worked as an elevator man and one of the worst bartenders ever.
